The Kids Play & Learn Preschool Ltd will inspire a lifelong love for learning!

We will work with your child through fun and play to discover and follow their individual interests and passions. Being supported to follow their individual interests helps them to prepare for the future right from the start.

Every child tends to wonder, at some point of their young life, what they will be when they grow up?

But how do they prepare for a world that is constantly changing? (Who would have thought that drone pilot would be a job thirty years ago?)

Research suggests that through play children hone ways of thinking, testing ideas, working together and promoting creativity.  These are the most important skills that would help them thrive throughout their lives.

This is the reason for having play at the heart of our curriculum. We follow and build on the foundations of the Government’s EYFS curriculum by combining a wide range of activities to nurture and develop the skills your child needs to flourish and reach their full potential.

Areas of Learning

‘Kids Play & Learn Pre-school’ follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) which is a statutory requirement. EYFS will be continued when your child joins a Reception Class at your chosen primary school.

Your child will be taught through play with a good balance of teacher led and child initiated/led learning activities.

The seven areas of learning as set out in The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) are;

  • communication and language

  • physical development

  • personal, social and emotional development

  • literacy

  • mathematics

  • understanding the world

  • expressive arts and design

Three areas are particularly important for building a foundation, igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, forming relationships and thriving.

These are the prime areas:

• communication and language

 • physical development

• personal, social and emotional development

Four specific areas, through which the three prime areas are strengthened and applied.

 The specific areas are:

 • literacy

• mathematics

• understanding the world

• expressive arts and design

  • The characteristics of effective learning as set in EYFS are: playing and exploring - children investigate and experience things, and ‘have a go’; active learning - children concentrate and keep on trying if they encounter difficulties, and enjoy achievements; and creating and thinking critically - children have and develop their own ideas, make links between ideas, and develop strategies for doing things.

Assessments

Assessments show your child’s developmental progress in all areas and help educators to provide support tailored to child’s need for the next steps. Assessments are carried out throughout the early years, based on classroom observations and teacher-parent consultations and form the Early Years Profile. EYFS profile outlines the expected levels that your child should reach at the end of the reception year. These expected levels are called the Early Learning Goals. Detailed Early Learning Goals (ELG) expectations can be found in the early years framework

The EYFS framework highlights seven areas that are pivotal to child’s learning and development.  But Kids Play & Learn Preschool does not stop there.  We know how important the foundations of a life- long learning are and at the same time how precious childhood is. Our support for children to develop and grow through the seven areas and at the same time enjoy the childhood (after all they only get one), goes beyond Government standards. And that’s what is at the heart of Kids Play & Learn.

Learning through play with child initiated/led and teacher led/initiated activities we want to ensure that your child has a learning journey full of wonderful experiences that they can carry with them throughout their early years and their entire lives.

We believe that when adults and children work play together, their collective creativity and cognitive/learning skills are increased. With play integrated (playful) guidance of adults, children are challenged to think about hurdles, select high-quality ideas and solve problems. Whilst under the leadership of children educators can rediscover their cognitive flexibility, cultivate an openness to difference and consider unusual ideas that they wouldn’t entertain otherwise.

That’s what we are about! We create the context for a meaningful and engaged learning today to inspire and develop the creators and builders of tomorrow!

Come and join us (don’t just take our word for it) to enjoy a unique learning experience with Kids Play & Learn!

We have a distinct take on the effective learning through play. Open the ‘Play and Learning’ below to read a very brief summary of the growing researched evidence on the strong link between play and learning.

Different ways to support your child's learning at home

We at ‘Kids Play & Learn Preschool’ strongly believe that structure, routine and adult focused activities can aid children immensely in their learning, development and personal wellbeing. However, we also value the importance of child initiated play, ensuring your child develops in all areas of learning. A balanced amount of both will be at the centre of our learning. ‘Kids Play &Learn’ encourages parent involvement in everything we do. Parents are recognised as their child's life long teacher and parents are invited to share information about the wellbeing, learning and development of their child through annual questionnaires, Stay and Play days, parents’ evenings, reports as well as daily key person chats and Facebook, e-mail and phone. Below are some suggestions on how your child can be supported at home.

There is a plethora of ways in which you, as a parent/carer can build on and extend your child’s learning at home.  They will get plenty of chances to talk with teachers and their peers, however, it is very important that you as a parent keep talking to your child at every opportunity.  The best way for the child to tackle the intricacy of the spoken language is to repeatedly hear the spoken words and to hear them in many different contexts.

Talk about maths and count when;

-walking up and down the stairs (you could count in a funny voice to make them laugh, the best learning happens when enjoyed and happy)

-walking on the street, counting trees that you spot or houses and looking at the numbers on doors.

-when shopping, money, quantity (how many?), size (big/small, bigger etc), money, shapes and directions.

-when cooking, read out loud/say the instructions for you and your child to follow, support and encourage practical activities cutting, pouring and measuring (three spoonful etc.).  Allow mess!  In one simple cooking activity children will develop in three main subjects-

English (instructions), maths and fine motor skills with cutting, mixing and many more other life skills.

-Remember to read every day and talk about pictures and the content.  Reading is held as the most effective way to build children’s vocabulary/language, spark their imagination and encourage creativity.

On your park times and walks outside pick up natural materials, leaves, twigs, rocks and talk about them with your child.  Observing trees and leaves, would be a great way    Also, talk about the weather and how it changes, hot, cold rainy and how it can be observed in leaves and trees (leaves change colour and fall on the floor etc.).  Encourage discussions about dressing for different weathers. ‘Oh it’s rainy today? What do we need to wear, shoes or boots?’  Science is applied here as they’ll learn about waterproof and not waterproof materials and much more. Moreover, encourage your child to dress and undress themselves. This will take time and patience from you and your child, but it will help greatly their development and independence. There many more ways and ideas that you and your child will come up with.  Have fun together and enjoy learning!
